The sole purpose for Egypitan mummification was for the Ka and the Ba to be able to regonize the phyiscal body upon death. The Ka, Ba and Akh are three critial aspects assocaited the with Egypitan mortuary cult. The Ka was believed to be the vital life force or energy and was received by the individual upon birth. It resembled the physical body in everyway and resided with the body until death. The Ka can be equated to many cultures definition of a spirit. It was believed that the Ka required food upon the individuals death to sustain it, which is by offerings of food were also left in burial plots and tombs. The Ba was essentially composed of all the traits that made up an individuals personality. At the time of death, the Ba culminated into the form of a human headed bird and was free to travel between the land of the living and the dead. The Akh was formed when the Ka and the Ba joined together after in the body after physical death. This union could only take place if proper burial rights were followed. If done correctly,the Ka and Ba would be able to regonize the phyiscal body after death and contine to live within it until judgement. If the individual was deamed to have lived a just life, they the individual would be freed of the body and released into the afterlife.
